Abstract
One hundred and ten cases of hemophilia which were reported by seven medical
centers in Korea were reviewed and analyzed.
Ninty-four cases(85.5%) of the patients were belonged to the pediatric age group on
the first visit.
All of the cases were male.
A positive family history was obtained in 48.9% of the cases.
The common complaints were bleeding tendency such as purpura, ecchymosis, gingival
bleeding, prolonged bleeding following minor trauma and joint symptoms related to the
hemarthrosis. In younger age group the bleeding tendency was the common chief
complaint while in older age group joint symptoms due to hemarthrosis were common
complaints, and about 15% of the patients had a episode of convulsion due to
intracranial hemorrhage.
The incidence of individual type of hemophilia was as follows:
Hemophilia A. : 46 (82.1%), Hemophilia B. : 7(12.5%), Hemophilia C. : 3(5.4%)
In 13% of the cases, coagulation time was within normal limits.
